Women Aren't Funny
was conceived in the spring of 2005 by a group of female comedians with a flair for satire and enough anger and gumption to fill the recently vetoed West Side Stadium. Tired of being type cast on and off the stage as wives, girlfriends, mothers, and one too many "Woman #1"s, the ladies of Women Aren't Funny. vowed to embark on a comedic journey of serious proportions. Their mission: To create an all-female sketch comedy troupe with the commitment to challenge mainstream comedic standards, develop dynamic female characters, confront sexist ideas within both mainstream and fringe communities, and make people laugh until general pants-pissing ensues.
The group is run as a collective and all the material is original. Determined to disprove the alarmingly widespread conclusion that the shortage of female comedians is due to their inherent inability to be silly, all the women of Women Aren't Funny are both writers and performers.
